The monument is in memory of the soldiers killed in the liberation of Slovakia and Czech republic in WWII. An impressive monument and well kept grounds on top of the hill, which gives a good vantage point to oversee Bratislava and the surrounding area. If you plan to walk to the monument be aware that the roads are quite steep….
This was a nice visit during last summer. We rented some bikes and took the quiet route to Slavin, take some water as it’s mostly uphill riding.
The views were quite nice and it’s not so crowded, so you can get to enjoy the visit.
We rode quite slow so from old town, the UFO bridge to Slavin was about 45 min while going thru the castle as well.
I’d consider it one of the places to visit when you are in Bratislava.
[Careful though, there’s a saying that couples in love shouldn’t visit else they’d split, but it’s up to whether you’re superstitious]
